Review of AGM's
July 01, 2023
The Fermanagh and Western Football League and Association's both held their AGM's on Thursday night at the Bawnacre Centre in Irvinestown.
Several proposed rules changes were voted on however none were successful in achieving the 75% threshold of required votes from member clubs. These included;
1) Kick off times for all matches throughout the season fixed at 2pm
2) Kick off times for all matched in the months of November and February to be 2pm
3) The production of a handbook containing all the fixtures for the forthcoming season
All the officers of the league were returned into their previous roles with Julie Mortland (Dergview) and Gareth McFarland (Mountjoy United) joining the management league committee.
After an 11 year absence Ballinamallard United Reserves have returned to the league with their application to join Division 3 accepted by the member club. Derrychara United have changed their name to Devenish FC and Fivemiletown United II will now be called Fivemiletown United Development. It was also very encouraging to see so many new team applications for Reserve Division 3 with 5 new teams - Enniskillen Rangers Colts, Enniskillen Rovers Reserves, Lisnaskea Rovers Reserves, Fivemiletown United Reserves and Strathroy Harps III.
The Fermanagh and Western Football Association held their AGM after the league AGM with the big news on the night that the Chairman Roy Cathcart decided to stand down from his position which he has held for over 20 years. Roy is a legend of the local game and the level of commitment/dedication he has given to our local association and to the Irish FA can not be measured or fully appreciated. He will be a huge loss to the FWFA and the Irish FA however we hope he enjoys his retirement and he gets round to finally writing a book on the history of the Fermanagh and Western Football.
Enda Love was nominated unopposed to replace Roy as Chairman of the Association, a role his father held for many years. We would like to wish Enda the best of luck as Chairman for the forthcoming season. Martin Lynch (Fred) of Irvinestown Wanderers was appointed as Vice Chairman of the association filling the position previously held by Enda Love. All other officers were returned to their positions from the previous season. Rodney McVitty of Magheraveely FC was nominated to replace Roy Cathcart on the Irish FA Council.
The new season is scheduled to start on Saturday the 19th August 2023 and we would like to wish all clubs the very best for the season ahead.
